I pursued this story as a photographer for Flux Magazine at the University of Oregon for six months before going to print. After reaching multiple dead ends on other stories, I finally managed to make enough progress through my reporting to chase this story more fully.
The project involved months of research, reporting, writing and photographing alongside the writer. We spoke with several ranchers, biologists and conservationists around Oregon. It was a collaborative effort that ultimately earned the cover photo for the 2025 Edition of Flux Magazine.
